Scholarships and Financial Aid

Samford University Merit Scholarships are awarded to students who have distinguished records of achievement. The university believes the lives and commitments of such students hold great promise for addressing the vital issues of the future. The Scholarship Committee seeks students who intentionally use their exceptional talents, abilities, and personal commitments to better society.  Please note that some scholarships are mutually exclusive with respect to other Samford awards and may not be paired together.

Academic Scholarship

Academic Scholarships are awarded to students who are distinguished by records of outstanding academic achievement.

Leadership Scholarship

 Leadership Scholarships recognize students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership throughout their high school years.  In order to be considered for Leadership Scholarships, students must submit an application and leadership resume by December 15 of their senior year via the application portal-available to any student who has completed an application through Samford or Common App.

Presidential Scholarship

Presidential Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshman students who display outstanding academic achievement and extensive involvement in critical leadership roles in school, church and the community.  In order to be considered for the Presidential Scholarship, students must submit the Samford application and leadership resume by December 15 of their senior year via the application portal - available to any student who has completed an application through Samford or Common App.

National Merit Scholarship

National Merit Scholarships at Samford University are awarded to students who are distinguished by their selection as a Finalist from the National Merit, National Achievement, or National Hispanic programs and rank Samford University as their first choice.

Samford Legacy Scholarship

Samford is proud of its alumni and seeks to recognize the heritage of the family by continuing the Samford tradition.  This scholarship is reserved for students whose sibling, parent, grandparent, uncle or aunt, and/or other relatives attended Samford University.

University Fellows Scholarship

All students admitted to the University Fellows Program (Samford's honors program), receive a substantial scholarship that varies in amount, with University Fellows guaranteeing at least $16,000 and averaging at $18,500.

Minister Dependent Scholarship

 Minister Dependent Scholarships are reserved for students who indicate on their application (submitted by December 15) that they are dependents of ministers serving a Southern Baptist or Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Church.

Through a unique partnership, Samford and Upward are working together to raise up the next generation of leaders that will continue to reach their local communities for Christ through sports and recreation.

There are several programs on campus that offer scholarships through a separate application process. March 15, Non-merit Based Scholarship Deadline

Samford additionally offers freshman applicants the opportunity to qualify for non-merit based scholarships, who complete their application by March 15.  Apply Now >>

An enrollment fee will be charged at the time that the student or authorized user enrolls. The information on Samford's Payment Plan page is not up-to-date, but will be updated with 2014-15 information soon.
 

Merit-Based scholarships are not the only way to pay for college.  Samford University is dedicated to making education affordable for their students through a variety of need-based options.  In order to maximize your eligibility for financial aid, you must submit the FAFSA by March 1.
